I use navfree canada, ski tracks and avenza pdf reader.
Navfree canada is free and basically does everything garmin nuvi does.
Ski tracks for plotting.
And avenza pdf reader for all the maps from srd. Maclean , ghost and numerous other areas.
Also have a three diffrent versions of topo maps that I use for route planning.

i use trimble outdoors for android.  allows pretty much everything and i can download chunks of map before leaving home for offline viewing.  it's great for topo.  has a different name on iphone, trimble something.

for normal driving i use navigon stuff for iphone and android.

I've had pretty good luck with EveryTrail for my iphone. Tracks the trails pretty well. Also like above you can pre download maps for the areas you're heading.
