Saharah to Rubicon suspension??? Advice please
What am I gaining if I swap out my Sahara JKU suspension for Rubicon JKU suspension (shocks, springs and track bar)?

Also mine is a 2010 and the Rubi is 2011. Can I assume they are compatible?

You can assume anything you like...but don't phone me when the results suck.  ;D

As far as I know, the suspension on your 2010 and the 2011 Rubi are compatible. As far as what your might gain by swappign components, here's the list:

Track bars: NOTHING. The Rubi track bar is exaclty the same.

Springs: Probably NOTHING. There is a chart out there that show that the Rubi has more ground clearance than the Sahara. You know why? Because the Rubicon has BIGGER TIRES that the Sahara. Ground clearance is measured under the differential....and longer coils will make no difference at all to actual ground clearance. I believe that the  folks that tell you that you will get anywhere between 1 and 3 inches by putting "Rubicon" springs onto your Sahara are misinformed. I haven't tried it myself....but for $0.02 is that you would be wasting your time.

Shocks: There may be a SMALL difference in the valving....but I don't know that the small difference would be worht the time you would spend swapping the shocks over.

There are plenty of things on a stock Rubicon that would improve your Sahara in a big way...but if you ask me springs, shocks, and track bars wouldn't be on the list.

I typed that. Then I got a bit of deja-vu. Then I remembered that I answered a similar question last week - I assumed that it was from someone else, but I thought that I'd take a look and maybe throw up a link if someone had a particularily helpful nuggest of information. So I looked for a couple seconds, and found this:

and this

and this

http://abjk.ca/showthread.php?863-Saharah-to-Rubicon-suspension-Advice-please

and it occured to me that in the past 8 days you've started four different threads on two different forums all asking exactly the same question....and I'm not convinced that you've read any of the responses.

Please understand that doing this tends to discourage knowledgeable members of the board from sharing what they know. How would you respond if someone at McDonalds asked you "would you like fries with that" three times after you ordered your buger - ignoring your response each time?

Swapping out a Sahara JKU suspension for a Rubicon will gain you a lot.... of experience swapping it out. It will also be a trail rated Rubicon, and you will have to let your insurance know, so that they put you on the right policy, and give you full Rubicon rated offroad coverage. It will also grant you access to buy Rubicon stickers from the jeep dealer. You will get full 90* articulation and be able to run 44" tyres or is it tires?? Anyways long story short its well worth the swap.
Aren't they EXACTLY the same suspensions? If not, see above. If they are, see above, and read it twice.

 ??? :-\

Sorry, Raf, I HAD to.

if we were smart with our money we wouldn't own Jeeps.
Here's your cup of STFU... ENJOY!

I'm sorry if I offended you by asking a question more than once W Squared but I did not feel I got the answer that I was looking for hence the need to ask again.  Maybe it was my fault for not being specific enough.  I was not interested in height gains.  I totally understand to get more ground clearance you can only do so by upsizing your tires.  I was more interested in the performance of the parts (i.e. are they better for off-roading, how will it affect my daily driving..) that kind of stuff.

So please excuse my ignorance in this matter as I am not a mechanic, I am new to jeeps and I am very interested in getting to know more about this stuff and posting it on two forums was only logical to get a wider base of responses to learn from.

I appreciate all the help that "experienced and knowledgeable" members offer on here.  But I must say that demeaning me for not knowing something that comes easy to others is not cool and you can save the sarcasm.  Maybe if you knew me personally it would be acceptable but please give someone new to this the benefit of the doubt next time your patience wears a little thin.  Everybody is new at something at some point or another and helping people with a positive attitude can go a long way.

You haven't offended me. If you had, you'd know it. If you had specific questions that you felt weren't answered, then the thing to do would be to ask them in the original thread, instead of saying this:

Thanks for the advice W Squared.  I know I have lots to learn about this stuff.  I am only thinking about swapping if I can find some take offs for free.

As for the sliders, I agree and I am trying to sell off my step rails so I can pick up some sliders.

At no point have I demeaned you for not knowing something. I have simply tried to demonstrate to you that the way you have gone about seeking answers to your questions is counter-productive. If you stop and think about it, all I am doing is trying to pass some knowledge about successfully using the resource that internet forums represent. If you think that I've handled you roughly or you find my words hurtful, then I hope that you never, ever visit Pirate or JK Owners.

I'd also add that  the answers to every question you have asked so far are there for the taking in the posts that forum members have made here.

If you're not interested in having knowledge passed on from folks that are more experienced, then best of luck - and may I suggest buying a shop manual. If you are interested in benefiting from what others have learned and are willing to share, then I'd suggest that you read lots, post little, learn as much as you can, use the search function until you're blue in the face, and be very specific when you post questions. That's what I tried to do when I was starting to learn about Jeeps (and compared to some folks here I am still a novice), and it served me well. Doing that makes the people who are volunteering their time and knowledge feel that it's appreciated and worth their time. Even if you had different questions in mind, posting what reads as the same question in four different threads makes people feel that you're not reading their answers....and makes them lose interest in helping you.

you gain nothing. If you got springs from a 4 door and you have a 2 door, the 4 door will have stiffer springs in the rear.
