AX-15 swapping.......
« on: June 11, 2012, 03:26:31 PM »
Pretty soon I'll be pulling the AX15 out of my gf's 97 TJ. Synchro's and/or shift forks are toast. Now I have a spare AX-15 from a 1999 Cherokee. Can I just swap that one in directly?

I thought I read somewhere that the t-cases were clocked differently on a TJ vs. an XJ. Is that true? if so will that mean anything if I re-use the TJ's NP231?

Thanks!

You can drill the tail housing to clock the case back to the original TJ position, or you just live with the lower case.

Or, you could swap all the guts from one box to the other.

What would the lower case do for me? I don't care very much.

Just hang down a bit farther. You may need a small t-case drop to maintain proper clearence to the skid.

You only have to swap the rear housing. Took me about an hour to do. Super easy.

I have a clocking ring you could have as well.
