Forgive me if this topic has been beaten to death.  I did a quick search and did not see any answers to my question.  It seems that "airing down" is the norm here.  So my question is this:  Does everyone on here have some kind of onboard air compressor?  How does everyone air back up when it is time to drive home?  I would prefer a less involved way to air down than having to invest in an onboard compressor.  Does an air-pig carry enough air to refill 4 tires to a suitable road pressure?  Is there a cigarette lighter powered compressor that can do an adequate job (less than an hour!)?

Canadian tire or wallmart has air compressors for 40-60 $. I use one of them to air up. I just did not get around to get a good one yet.

U can by good ones that just hook up to your battery and they are fast. just look up portable aircompressors. smithy build, ARB, Titan Max. There is allot of them out there. But if you want some cheap then don't be surprised if you will be spending more then 1 hr airing up all 4 of your tires.

and it is all depends how low you went with the pressure on ur tires.

many people carry the ARB air compressors. they work very well. about 300$  from Stan at Northridge.

the cool kids will utilize their AC pumps to run OBA.  it is the way to go ;)

you will not find a cigarette lighter pump that will fill your tires ever, let alone an hour ;)

Canadian Tire has a dual cylinder portable compressors that connects to the battery for $50.00. It's a NASCAR compressor with a case, claims to fill a tire in 1.5 minutes. I used one the other day and it worked great.

I bought the last one and had to search like 5 locations to find it but I heard they will special order them.

I have an ARB wired up in the back, I can fill up 4 33" tires from 12psi (what my deflators are set to) to about 35psi in about 10 minutes. The ability to idle up with a tuner is a huge help too.

I had the Canadian Tire one that plugged into the cigarette lighter, took about 20 minutes to air up the same tires from 19psi ish to 35psi.  If you want to give it a shot, you are welcome to swing by.

i have left trails for years aired down til i got to the closest town. Bragg Creek is close...Cochrane is close, etc.
i have never debeaded, prematurely worn out tires, flatted, etc.

In my old YJ I ran 2 of the cheapo lighter pumps at a time and while slow it did work.  I could run 4 33" tires from 8-9lbs to 25-26lbs in about 30 mins or so.    Course in my TJ I have a viair with a tank... just a wee bit faster ;)

i agree . with this guy

i used to have a warn power plant with the compressor built in and it worked pretty damn good but it finally died and i sold it
then after that . i would air down to 8 psi and run that all day drive home with that and usually back to work the next day then fill . some times i would run 8psi for weeks on end never had any issues . 35's on a jeep the tire still has plenty of air in it at 8psi .. and when i did air back up it never went over 18psi . tires always stayed round and never cupped

with a bigger rig youll want to probably stay above 12 -15 psi . and a short drive home  or to the closest gas market should be just fine

My viair 400h does 4 33s from 12 to 28 in about 8 minutes or so, no tank and was 200 beans. Just need an open chuck or drill a closed chuck.

i dont think this guy is ready to change out is AC compressor for a on board air system .. power wagon is 2 new still

Busted again!  Yes, the truck is too new to gut the A/C.  It is also my DD and my only vehicle so I do not want to modify it to that extent.  Thanks for the input guys.  I appreciate the sharing of knowledge despite my sad condition of not owning a Jeep anymore.  Sold my old '74 wagoneer last year when I moved across the province.  Now THAT was a Jeep!  ;)

For under 400$ you can run air tools, fill tires, re-seat blown beads, fill air mattresses camping, blah blah.

A powertank will fill 33" tires from 10-30psi well over a dozen times between fills.

And at the end of the day its the fastest air you can buy. Filling 33's is only 30 seconds a tire.

Bill makes a good point, power tank or compressor they work for anything. Portable air is handy anywhere you go. I keep my compressor with me all the time.
