Straight pipe would be deep and loud and cheap.

Mine is straight piped. Sounds great, but too loud for daily driving.

Then again, I'm starting to shop for prune juice with the grandkid, so maybe it is just me.  :D

There's rumours that prune juice is the new Viagra... who needs a wine cellar when you have a prune juice cellar?

I been doing prune juice for years......great stuff.

I got a cheap  $40 magna flow from Mopac, sounds great and not too loud for a DD.

Flowmaster all the way. 40 series is a little to aggressive. I shoulda went with a 50 series. Mine sounds like lucifers jeep.  Kinda cool though when you stomp on it and the guy in the muscle car asks "what the hell is in that".

The Flowmaster 40 series is awesome for the first little while, but the drone at highway speeds will make you want to kick a kitten across the street. Too boy-racerish and you won't be fooling anybody into thinking that you possess any real power under the hood with your tractor straight 6. I hope it's at least a 6 because a high flowing exhaust on a 4 popper sounds like a weedwacker IMO.

A quality Gibson or Magnaflow has a mellow hum that I lean towards.

Noel aka Tubby sold me a cat back magnaflow system for a lot less than it was worth and with the new header it sounds great.
Getting grumpier every day.

I have a flowmaster on mine that came with the jeep and thought it was pretty quiete compared to what i have had in years past. But loud enough to drown out any weird noises coming from the jeep.
