Thinkin of selling the hardtop

So the TJs gonna be garaged from now on. Pulled out for snowboarding, wheeling, and pissin around, she's become a toy. I know the topics been done, but do you ya think I'll hate the softtop weekend warrior in the winter game more then I'll hate storing that fuggin hardtop for half a year? I'll have to buy a cage or something if I keep the softtop to carry 4 boards so I gotta keep that mind. My hardtop has an xj roofrack with Thule board carriers on it now. Thoughts?

The soft top is bit a loud in the winter and you run the risk the cracking a window when thy are cold.  But it is plenty warm.  I run my soft top year around.   Can't be bothered with a hard top.

It's a HUGE pain in the arse. Looking at it sitting in the backyard covered in snow makes me dread the thought of putting it back on. Oddly enough, I replaced 2 side windows in the hardtop last year from rocks on the #16, atleast the softtop can be "repaired" with a piece of tape.

Laziness is definately a huge player in this decision wish it was money but I'd end up spending what I sold her for on some other form of carrying boards, I really hate those fuggin Congo rack things, pure cheese but hangin the boards off the hitch doesn't seem like a good idea either.

What about your wee ones in the back? Too cold for em or doesnt make a difference really?

No difference really. Specially TJ's. Pretty warm.

Maybe convert a hitch style bike rack into a board rack, Could probably be done.

When its -40 is what I'm sniffin for info on, good to know about the little ones bein warm.

Leanin against the hitch idea, Just the dirt, crap n rocks from the highway, and Ive been rear ended twice in two years at Sunshine in the TJ.Anyone use those hitch board racks here? Especially with no mudflaps and flares that dont cover. I know, I know, I'm like a woman with this

I drove to Lethbridge last winter and temps were -27 to -29.
With the soft top I would keep switching the heater fan speed between 2nd and 3rd position, never once used high speed.
There is no issue with heat and a soft top, the only 2 negatives I see is you can't scrape the windows and risk cracking them.

Coo, well I'm sold on it now. Now, what  rack do I wanna put on her is my question. Who's got experience with those things? Don't care its hinged, probably rather it wasn't actually, prob sturdier that way.

Check the Garvin racks, nothing bolts to the side so no worry about hooking it on the trees and it's very sturdy.

i have never had a hardtop. i also have only ever had halfdoors, so soft windows. The CJ is soft door and window.
i have never cracked a window by opening the rear.
i did shatter a side window when a tree limb hit it in -25 deg wheeling once.

i also have a ski/snowboard/bike rack for sale that fits 2" receiver. But i can not sell it to anyone that chooses Sunshine as an excuse for a hill

Cracked one 2 years ago at -20c... it sucked.

That do not bend much in that kind of temp.

best way to prevent that is unzip both sides and lift as though it is a glass window. Do not bend or roll it.
