Replacing wheel stud 98 xj

So I mangled a front wheel stud on my 98. Can you change it without removing the hub/wheel bearing? I don't mind if I have to take it off, but the wheel bearing hasn't been off in a long time.

It's much easier to do on a bench. Just put a nut over the broken stud and smoke it with a hammer. Use another stud from an old unit bearing and tap it in( interference fit ) to replace your broken one.  Cheap as borscht.

The stud is already loose. Nut was cross threaded on at a shop, and I had the lug nut torched off. Right now the stud is just flopping around. Is there enough clearance to swap into the out on the jeep?

Pretty easy to do on, just wack the old one out with a hammer, then draw the new one into place by stacking washers(and maybe a large nut) over the stud then crank up the nut till the stud is in place. Make sure its fully seated and recheck the torque in a week or so to make sure it didn't loosen off in case it wasn't fully seated.

If the stud is loose in the hole then the hub might screwed. The stud must fit tightly into the hole. If the old stud was spun in the hole then the hole could be enlarged and the new stud won't fit tightly enough.  You could(but not recommended)  weld the stud into place. Better fix would be to replace the hub.

Looks like it's time for a new hub/bearing. I didn't want to, but it's only a couple more bolts to get it off anyways.
