Affordable paint shop?

Hello everyone, I just picked up my 98 xj a couple of days ago and I'm in the process of catching up on maintenance on it. I took the bra off the front end of the jeep and was shocked at how bad the front header panel is chipped . needless to say I put that bra back on untill I can find a paint shop to get er done right. Do you gentlemen know of any shops that would paint this thing for a reasonable amount done right ?

Or.......do what I did...I masked off about 15 inches from the front towards the windshield, took some 200 grit sandpaper, sanded out the chips, rust and scuffed up the paint.....gave it a good clean and then hit it with 3 coats of aerosol truck bed liner.  It's not for everyone but I like it and now it can handle all the rocks and crap that comes my way....the $15.00 paint repair.

You have to order off the net. I have called to ask questions before. Their customer service is impeccable. But I think you get a bonus if you order and put the coupon code off of jeep forum on the form.

I'd call the CBSA and make sure you can bring it across first, make sure you make them aware that you will only have English documentation. Some aspects of the Hazardous Products Act/ Surface Coating Materials Regulations require labelling in both English and French (eg. lead and mercury content). MonstaLiner is also combustible, so Canada Post might not ship it and deem it "non-mailable".

EDIT: Since I'm curious too, Health Canada is going to have one of their product safety officers call me and let me know if you can bring it in and what the labelling requirements will be.

Fraser, you're swell. That's cool. When I talked to the CS agent he said the owner does all the across border shipping himself and they never had any problems.
Binare one of the BONUS's was free shipping. But then again I don't know if that was across the border. So ya... I'm down whenever. I want to do my whole exterior. As teal kinda sucks.

Maybe, the truck I'm looking at doesn't have a bedliner in it so I need to price out Line-X as well. Plus I'm lazy.

Just got off the phone with Health Canada.

So long as it is in quatities that are clearly for personal use (read 1-2 kits) you shouldn't have an issue. Just make sure that you have all receipts, technical datasheets and MSDS sheets for what you are bringing over. MonstaLiner provides the tech data and MSDS sheets on their side. Canada Post is a toss up since MonstaLiner is combustible and not flammable.

I'm going to throw my 2 cents in. The biggest problem with the truck liners isn't the particular brand or colour (although personal preference of colour will dictate brand). The failure of truck bed liners on paint is almost always to do with the prep of the surface (same as with painting itself). That surface has to be seriously scuffed and free of oils etc. I would argue that the surface should be prepped identical to painting if you want a long term solution. Having said that, the liner is far more forgiving in application and even I could make it look good (Forest Gump and I attended the same painting school and had matching grades). I know Jackstandjohnny applied a liner to his Dodge truck a couple of years ago and he's very open to contributing to an education.

awesome ! thanks everyone! I'm going to be going the bed liner idea, going to prep meticulously then going to even use the Rustoleum Self Etching primer followed by the rustoleum bed liner. Wish me luck !
