Hey new guy here
« on: March 16, 2013, 12:21:41 PM »
Hey folks, just joined you're site. been thinking about switching to a Jeep, just cruising some of the builds to find out what to get.  I like some of the xj's here.

You've got plenty of options. XJ's are pretty much your best bang for your buck. Not too expensive to build up. Wranglers are a blast to drive but cost more at first, cheaper to build in the end though.
Best advice, don't cheap out. You'll be much happier in the end:)
Have fun!

Best advice I can give you is turn around and run!  Unless of course your prepared to spend all your time and money on a jeep that won't be worth 2 cents when your done.  If that's the case then welcome!
I just can’t resist a good mud hole!  🤦

Hahhaha, that awesome. Well I've been blowing all my time and money on chevy s-trucks for the last ten years. They go like stink and work good, but same thing, they might be worth 5 cents now that the penny is going away. They might be worth nothing if they round the penny down hahaha. Time to switch it up though.  My wheeler is an early 4 door s-blazer on 35's. I've got a yj hp30 diff I've been thinking of putting in the front, but why not just get an xj?  Don't they already come with 5 speed's?

A used XJ is akin to a disposable Bic lighter.

The formula to a capable Cherokee on the cheap has been followed many times. Do some research and with some knowledge and mechanical aptitude, you'll be rewarded with years of wheeling fun. You won't have monthly vehicle payments, care about getting dents or scratches plus the real bonus !  YOU CAN HAVE SEX  COMFORTABLY in one . Ever try to get frisky with the ol' lady in a Wrangler? Not gonna freaking happen.  The ol' lady kicks you out of the house? No biggie, pull the rear seat and you can live in there for a week.

Yes, I still love my XJ even though it squeaks , is prone to overheating on hot summer days, and the doors don't close properly anymore,  but they're cheaper than borscht. Crap breaks ? The junkyard is filled with these things.

Buy, build, break and toss away. It's amazing what crazy lines you'll take on the trail when you don't care about body damage anymore.

Oh, and yes. They came with 5 speeds. Go for one equipped with the venerable AX-15 and not the crap Peaugout trans.

Gotta side with Binare on this one - those two-finger loops on the wrangler hood come in pretty handy (someone told me they have something to do with the windshield folding down - I ain't buying it)

With the roof off the rollbar turns into a trapeze for any position imaginable. Definate win for the wrangler!

If you took off the yellow cowboy hat, you'd have twice the space.
