Four wheeling guru needed
« on: April 12, 2013, 10:48:20 PM »
Hey, I am new to the site, but i've owned a Jeep for 8 years; furst my 1999 TJ Sport and now my 2013 Rubicon.  I am looking to getting into four wheeling, but was wondering if anyone would be willing to let me go once or twice with them before I add anything more to my Jeep?
Thanks.

There are usually open runs in the open runs section of the forum. No one will have a problem with you going out as long as you meet the requirements of the run and have safe tow points.

And on June 1, we are holding our Jeep 101 course. It's a great introduction to the world of wheeling.

Your 2013 Rubicon doesn't need ANYTHING added to it at this point. You will be perfectly fine wheeling it on open runs with the club for quite a while before you need to consider adding equipment or making modifications. It already has good tires and good tow points - those are the two key things to start wheeling. It also has a lot of things that most Jeep owners need to add after the fact - lockers front and rear, 4:1 tranfer case, sway bar disconnect, fuel tank skid plate, rock rails, and Dana 44 axles front and rear.

Go out on any open runs that you see pop up - you'll learn a lot. Don't worry about being the new guy - we all expect new people to show up for the open runs and we wouldn't hold an open run if we weren't willing to spend some time sharing what we learned from other people that did the same for us.

Absolutely go out for the Jeep 101 - even if you've been on a number of open runs, you'll be amazed at how much you learn. The whole event is designed to teach folks that are new to the sport.

101 is fun. Now until then, you can come on the 21st. Easy wiapourus run. I'm on 35s, and you'll kick my a$$ three ways from Sunday in a rubi. Hehe. Good times

Thanks everyone...I think I will take that Jeep 101...and I appreciate all the information.  I had ARB bumpers and rockrails as well as a WARN winch added.  I was going to get a motorcycle lift, a snorkel and a lift kit, but cost wise she was too up there...hopefully over the next two or three years.
I might be away April 21, but if not, I think it would be great. Super excited about my Rubie!

Okay....with front and rear bumpers and a winch already added, you'll meet the requirements for almost any run that the CJA does. A rubi with a winch and good bumpers can go a LOT of places.
