So hows every ones jeep in this cold snap?
« on: December 07, 2013, 04:05:28 PM »
Hello guys, so how is every one fairing in this cold snap that we are having?

So far I have added a heater pad for my battery, along with a new clutch slave cylinder.

List problems that had happen to you so others might get some help from it?

Mine Starts and runs fine. Regular maintenance will keep your jeep running tip top in cold weather. 0w-30 engine oil, synthetic oils, proper coolant strength, new drivetrain fluids as well. Make sure battery and charging system work properly. Keep some extra warm clothes in your jeep too.
Battery blankets, block heaters for coolant and engine oil help too.

Mlnes been good, although the last couple mornings I did plug it in for about 3 hrs before starting it. It's in heated garage tonight, need to finish compressor install tomorrow, switches and a little bit of wiring left. Air lockers are getting installed in couple weeks.

well as for me I work at night, I work for CN rail so theres a lot of wind and colder then normal, on Thursday the jeep struggled to turn on, even after I drove back home and the jeep was warm I stalled it at a light and it still struggled to turn on lol that's why the batt warmer was bought lol last night turned on with 0 struggling with the bat warmer

IM using 5/30 engine oil, what steering fluid you guys use for cold weather? or clutch fluid?

hahahah ok theres more to that stalling thing lol after I replaced the slave cylinder my clutch is much smoother then it was before so im not use to it... for some reason it seems like a car clutch now not a jeep clutch, before it was much stiffer and longer not its looser and more touchy lol

zj was dead this morning. completely dead.  put a charger on it and it fired right up.
went for a spin.  2wd could only go sideways. damn rear locker. put  in 4wd and........ same problem. damn front locker.   3 foot snow drift; no problem.  icy side street = stuck

My old cheapo battery is not too happy in the cold and cranks pretty slowly, but hasn't failed to start yet. Heat is blowing OK once warmed up but could be a lot better - the heater core could clearly use a backflush but I'm worried the 19 years of deposit buildup is the only thing keeping it from leaking. I'll just deal for now and replace it along with the evap core when spring rolls around.
