Cherokee aftermarket rear bumper
« on: December 18, 2013, 02:45:11 PM »
I finally got around to pulling off the factory bumper to install my HD offroad shackle relocation brackets on my 1989 XJ.  The brackets and new nutstrips are painted leftover Tremclad blue, and just waiting to go in.  The, "sad," part is that I was forced to destroy the factory bumper, and now I need something cool and new :).
I'm hoping to have my mind made up by the new year and in time to buy myself a birthday present.  What does everyone have, and like?  I want to use this for recovery, and keeping my fellow Edmontonians from ruining my heep.  Is there anything that uses all the factory hitch bolts and bumper mounting bolts, and is compatible with my HD offroad shackle brackets?  All of the USA ones with tire carriers come in at least 6x the price of my Jeep.  I'm not willing to spend $1500.  Is there anything that is manufactured locally, or at least locally available?  Any input is appreciated, thanks in advance!

My Rock hard was a decent price from Stan. Pretty much any aftermarket bumper will requite you to pull the shackles off.

I think JCR has a rear for the XJ as well.

I have the smittybilt XRC rear bumper. I don't have relocated aftermarket shackles. Paid around 500.00 for it.
01 XJ, RE 3.5" lift, Smittybilt XRC front & rear bumper, X2O 8,000 lb winch, 33" MT/R's
, ARB snorkel, lockers and a bunch of other stuff

@ Whiteout: I like the look of JCR's stuff.  They say that orders to here come with a surcharge, but I haven't really done any digging to find out what it would cost to bring a bumper to Canada.  How did the Rock Hard work out for you?
It sounds like I will probably have to get some fab work done regardless of what I pick out, because the shackle relocators are the only thing that will keep my shackle angle from being vertical and keep my fillings in my teeth.

@hps4evr: The Kevin's offroad bumpers seem pretty beefy.  Did you order with or without D-ring Tabs and tire carrier?

@EEP: That's a very reasonable amount.  The smittybilt looks pretty nice too.  Where'd you pick it up?

Lol, my bad. I thought you meant recovery shackles.

I love the bumper, excellent fab work and the customer service was great. I'm sure if you give James a call at RH he can tell you if it will work with the shackles.

I have a Warn rear on my 01 XJ with the spare tire carrier and its built pretty stout... Perhaps overbuilt... Its heavy and sticks out pretty far. Despite the weight and departure angles, Im happy with it, and it utilized all the stock holes... You do pay for its weight in gold though.....
I did a Google search for "hot trannies" but nothing came up about oil coolers  :o

Worrying too much about mpg with a Jeep is similar to worrying about your sister's virginity. An ok thing to be concerned about but...

@ Whiteout: I will have to give Rock Hard a call and find out what kind of $$ it would take to get it to my Door.
@ TL-Iguana: I put a Warn winch bumper on the front of my old F-150, and I loved it.  It was fairly spendy though, and I don't know if I want to lay down that much cheese for this XJ.
@ hps4ever: I would like to take a look at that Kevin's Offroad bumper when you get it in.
