dana 44 mini spool
« on: January 22, 2014, 12:49:44 PM »
I want to put a mini spool in my 02 jeep tj dana 44, my question is if the axle shafts are held in by c clips or not, and if they are is there a mini spool that works with the c clips? Or do i need to get a c clip eliminator kit or smthing like that?

thanks for any help

D44 shafts do not use C clips to hold the axle in place.

If u dont mind me asking how are they held in? And if thats the case i will just go full spool

Me: " Hey, I can get ultimate traction for under $60 ! "

Me again : " I can always take it out in a jiffy if I don't like it"

Reality? Wore an expensive set of tires out in one season , had to rotate tires monthly, chirped like a bastard on dry pavement and got nasty stares at Tim Horton drive-throughs.  Rainy days or ice was ...umm...interesting .
The mini-spool was also hard on my axelshaft splines ta boot.

Went selectable and will never go the spool route again on a rig that sees some on-road time. Even in a full-time offroad rig, I'd probably choose a Detroit locker.

Awesome, thanks for the quick replies.

I appreciate the warning but i still think its worth a try,  I only drive my jeep to and from the trails so it doesnt see much road time

I have thot about just welding it but if I do that then there's no slavaging the carrier if I decide I really don't like the mini spool
