2003 TJ heater motor problem, go figure!
« on: February 07, 2014, 04:28:23 PM »
My 2003 Jeep blower, heater only no AC, works on high only.  Now research suggests that running on that long will burn switches and wires.
I'm guessing the resistor pack is shot?
Jeep Forum tech section has a number of posts but it seems it can be anything from switch to resistor to blower to melted wiring!  I have never run the blower on high and have experienced no burnt smells or anything like that.  The blower just refused to work on any of the lower settings recently with no hint of a problem prior to that.

I'm wondering if I should get ahead of this and do the resistor, switch, and the relay mod?
Who does this in Calgary?  Cost? I'm guessing again that a dealership would replace the faulty part but the hot wiring and ongoing problems some report are likely to occur.

I can say 99% sure its your resistor. They can be bought from Napa for $20-30 give or take. I have had to replace 3 on jeeps in my life time. The resistor is 2 tiny bolts (8mm I think) and 1 wiring pigtail to swap, takes 5 mins.

If its not your resistor it would be your switch, I have a spare one if you need it.

I'd be happy to help, show you what to change, etc. text me 403-991-5950

Thanks, going to pick up the resistor pack and when we warm up a bit put it in.

Its been my experience that often when a resistor pack or switch goes its a sign that the motor is going. As it gets older it starts drawing more amps and overstresses the electrical system. If the switch goes or the resistor goes again or there are signs of melted or browned wires I'd replace the motor.
