The grand wont start.
« on: March 23, 2014, 04:25:45 PM »
Alright so today i finnally got my grand home, after 2 hours of trying to wedge her out a yard and trying to bypass the security system she fired up no problem. ran her for about 45 mins. shut her off started again no problem so i took her for a spin and everything was good. So i had put a plate on her and drove her home no issues besides the blower motor for the ac/heat wasnt working. Turned her off and went into my house to drain the main vein went back outside and she would not turn over. all power inside was working etc but there seems to be no power going to the starter to crank over....

Terminal are good and tight on the battery

Try starting it in neutral... maybe the NSS is bad?
Or try tapping on the starter while someone else turns the key.

Check the easy stuff first, like battery voltage.

Check that the starter relay in the underhood PDC is clicking when the key is turned to Start. If not, swap with another matched relay and re-test. If still not clicking, could be a bad NSS or problem with the ignition switch.

If the starter relay is clicking but the starter is not turning, try tapping the starter with a piece of wood to loosen any sticky brushes. While you're down there, make sure all the starter electrical connections are solid and check the harness for continuity. If it still doesn't work, try directly jumping the solenoid with a screwdriver. If that doesn't make anything happen, I'd say the starter is probably worn out.

How did you bypass the security system? Can you take the whole alarm out? Or is it a factory type? It sounds like what ever you bypassed to make it run, has come undone.

The bypass is done by key in the drivers door. nothing has been changed to wiring.

I think you guys are talking about two different things. Unlocking the drivers door or hatch with the key will disarm the stock alarm. What Johnny is talking about is a complete disabling of the system by interrupting the connection between the computer and door switch, this involves the removal of the driver's door trim and cutting/grounding wiring.

When you try to start it, is it just a hard click that you get?

Grab a multimeter and test to see if the starter relay is getting 12V when the key is turned to Start. You know the problem is between the relay and the key, so start at the relay and work backwards. While you've got the multimeter out, check to see if the NSS is functioning properly. You can also test the relays themselves in isolation to see if they are bad.
