Hey, so I just graduated Highschool a couple weeks back, bought myself a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee (inline 6) (4L) (OverDrive Capable) and the transmission is on its last legs. I spent about 2000 on this thing, and when i asked the guy if it had any major mechanical problems, he said no. SO basically this guy lied right to my face.

ANYWAYS, to get to the point, if anyone has any advice for me, even a compatible transmission for cheap. I would be so grateful. Im just trying to get back on the road, and so far, life isnt giving me much help.

Find a used tranny and swap it in.

Or,

Buy another grand Cherokee, keep the better of the two and part out the other one.  You may be able to break even on the part out.

Last option is have yours rebuilt.

You can get grands cheap on kijiji. I believe there is one on there now for $250 with a bagged motor

why is it on its last legs? what have you done to it? 
do the basics before casting blame; maybe the guy didn't know squat about vehicles.

 first off, go buy a filter kit for the tranny and brand new fluid. use ATF4+ for a Chrysler.  I would install a transmission drain plug while you are at it then flush the fluid out of it a few times, make sure its all brand new fluid.
google how to do it.

two good rules of thumb; if you're going to buy a 20 year old vehicle, learn how to wrench/fix it (we all started somewhere) and hit up the internet, learn, read, etc.

for the record, all grand Cherokees have tranny problems lol. or will eventually

Honestly I'm not sure I'd waste the time/money on a 1994 Grand Cherokee.  That ATF+3 is rather pricey and my FIL just bought 2000 Grand Cherokee 4.7L for $2000.  Consider this a good lesson. Do your research, a 1994 Grand Cherokee would have to be almost mint and low km to be worth $2000. Also take someone with you who knows cars and can look it over for you.

Lets try to salvage what you've got, did you check the tranny fluid level? Its done with engine hot, running at idle with tranny in N.  Fluid should be a nice red color, if its brown, black or pink you've got a problem.  What is the tranny doing/ not doing?

I "might" have a tranny for it. My dad blew the motor out of his '96 ZJ 4.0.  Tranny was good when it went but has 300,000kms on it. A bit of a gamble there which is why we aren't putting a motor into it. Also I'm not sure that a tranny from a '96 would work in a '94. You'd have to do the research.
