Are you asking what to do, or just randomly linking some nauseating over analized thread full of blah blah blah to waste other peoples time because you lost a couple hours of your own life to that abortion of a thread?

Must be a heavy burden to carry two big chips around all day long.

If you have drive line vibs its kind of a no brainer....install a SYE, your jeep will love you for it LOL.

So Im the only one that thinks a 21 page thread on slip yokes is nauseating?

If you need 21 pages to understand a fixed yoke output there is a problem. There is no question to do a SYE or not. If you're rig is lifted and you wheel, its an essential componant to your setup.

There is one question to ask when moving to a slip yoke that warrants discussion, and that is CV or not to CV. Fixed yoke without a CV is a better, stronger, more efficient, and more reliable design, but is not an option on certain setups. On most XJ's, it is an option.

Thats the question you should be asking, and because jeep forum is populated with mostly uninformed web wheelers aside from a very small handful of technical reps, I doubt you can even find that topic of discussion in that 21 pages pixel diarrhea.

By the way, there is only 1 chip (as the saying goes), its been there for 40 years, and I dont even notice it anymore, but with that said, in todays PC world we don’t call it a chip anymore. We refer to it is as cynical, and no, being cynical on this board is never difficult.

Thx Bill, not everyone is as educated about jeeps and offroading as you are. Perhaps you might cut the rest of us a little slack and not try to embarrass those with less experience with all that macho $hit because it wont cut it with me and likely not with anyone else either. The forum is an exchange of ideas where everyone feels that can ask a question without being slammed by some a$$hole with an axe to grind against the world. Learn to respect the rest of us on the forum and you will get a little respect in return. Robert

Hey Robert...  we will have to draft a FAQ for new forum members that states not to get upset when Bill makes a comment about their posts.  Maybe a special check box in the terms of use for the site?  What y'all think?    ::)

But... The question you posed lacks substance.  Title states to Slip yoke or not but then what? How about telling us your new to the offroading world (don't be shy to say you are a newb - we have all been there... except for Bill), and do not really know why you should be doing a slip yoke.  What kind of jeep do you have?  Do you plan on rock crawling or driving forestry trunk roads? Asking questions with additional details will save you time and money in the long run.  Thinking we will read 21 pages of drivel to give you an answer on an unclear question is going to get you comments like Bill's

Bill has a wealth on knowledge as do many other people on this forum. You will get great information if you just ask.

Now... expect a response from Bill.  Don't get any hurt feelings when he does post up.  I'm sure it will only there for a little while before one us removes his comments, but we do have to let the poor guy vent.

Cheers

Thx Bill, very few people here have the sort of experience that you've got, and even though I put ZERO effort into my original post you answered my question for me.

I'm going to STFU now, and remember that I'm on a forum populated by mechanically inclined gentlemen, not pantywaists discussing crocheting. I will keep in mind that in the future I'm likely to get a warm reception when I post up with a question in a way that demonstrates I've tried to do some homework and made an effort to provide the information required to help me out.

I'll also remember that the other two people that answered my post about the same time you did (one is a licensed mechanic at a shop that specializes in Jeeps and has done first rate work on many member's rigs, and the other one is a topdrive mechanic who builds his own suspension and vehicle frames for fun and has EARNED the respect of the local Jeep community) both said exactly what you did...so maybe there's some merit in my realizing that you gave me good advice.

I will also re-read the first few posts in this thread and realize that the original reply that you made really just slams the folks at jeepforum, not me..

Fixed it for ya.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

If you show enough respect to form a decent post, with a real question, rather than a lazy link to another board I will be the first guy to come in here and help you out.

This post shows poor forum ettuette, so I called you out on it. With lazy bullshit like this you immediately show a lack of respect for those of us here that do have the experience, and knowledge to help you, or any other newbie with what ever questions you all might have.

Your lack knowledge on how to properly address a topic on a forum board is not my problem.

I dont "need" to be nice, and I dont need to earn your respect. I've earned all the respect I need here by being a CONTRIBUTING member for more than a decade.

Several other people here get the point, and have also tried to explain it to you. Hopefully by now you get it.

If my harshness, or bluntness offends you, thats really to bad.

You need to understand there have been dozens of arrogant newbies come in here over the years who lacked respect. While my technique may not be the nicest, it has been effective in weeding out the retards, and educating the good guys worthy of keeping around for a long, long time.

I imagine we'll figure out soon enough where to slot you in.

Oh ya. Welcome to the CJA
