New to Jeeps and these forums, just saying Hi
« on: January 19, 2015, 07:48:25 PM »
Hey

I'm new here and thought I would introduce myself. I just bought an old bone stock '91 XJ 5 speed with 170 000 kms.
At the moment I am thinking of taking a mild approach and not get too crazy (if I keep telling myself this, maybe I'll believe it?) and figure I'll use it more for back country exploring/camping and some tame wheeling as it's also my DD. I'm leaning towards an OME lift and maybe 31s or something to that tune, and almost just went for it but I work freelance and figure maaaaybe I should get some more work/buffer money in the pipe first before I start spending on nice to haves and focus on making it run top notch first.

That said, I'm hoping to make it out to some trails come summer and learn how to drive better offroad. Even if I don't get the lift and tires right away, I figure some tow hooks and a CB should be cheap enough to get my feet wet. It might even not be a bad idea to wheel it stock a bit so that I can really figure out what I NEED vs. think I WANT in terms of upgrades. I guess I'll play it by ear for now.

I look forward to the new hobby and cruising the forums here.

Cheers,

Kevin.

Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you have a good plan, make it reliable, tow hooks and CB, wheel it, then upgrade as needed.

Yeah he was in Sundance, right near Fish Creek Park I think. Good guy... seems like he took pretty good care of it.

Nice looking XJ there.  Looks like pretty crazy low mileage for the year!

OME suspension stuff is very nice, and I've been very happy running their shocks, springs, and steering stabilizer.  It's money well spent if you're not looking for a hard-core off-road setup.

'00 XJ Classic, 3" OME lift, 32's, custom stereo.
