anyone using axle tube seals or something similar on their D30 ???? to keep junk outta the tube ends ...

,  their these greasable plugs that you tap/pound into the housing ends to keep mud, sand and maybe water out.  I have had some seal problems of late and noticed I dont even have those flimsy little caps anymore so anything eveything can just enter the tube end ... there's lots of choices for the tj's including colors - for my old yj I could find only one manufacturer that says it'll work cause I phoned them - ox the locker guys ... but their pricey ... just wondering if anyone has had success ... or used something else ? ....  or dont think it matters ....

the yj OX ones are viewable at this link ....

forgot to mention I'm 'axle challenged'   , do reg maint and was able to bolt on a rebuilt head but no gears/axles for me,  this jeep is 16yrs old and am thinking I've spent 2000$ in that time getting $100  worth of d30 seals replaced ... if this worked or at least doubled the interval then they would pay for themselves in a year maybe ... there's so many mud holes in alberta figured someone would have tried them .... if they work seems like one would be ahead   ... in my case ...

2003 both sides replaced,  passenger replaced 2005, currently both are looking damp at tube ends ... so its only a matter of time ...  not sure there is a pattern over last decade ... the only constant is mud

thanks calltrex,  I found out some of the eco club members run them also and so far so good,  good to know their not a gimmic ... only thing for me todo is try them out,  my current leak isnt quite the same as the previous ones as it turns out there is a groove in the shaft where the seal sits so will get that addressed at same time ... so am still thinking these will give me longer seal life in general ... thanks to all that replied ...  VRRRRoooommmm ......

When I did my front u-joints in mine when I first bought it, the passenger side leaked like crazy the next day. So I took it all apart again (thanks antisieze :) and cleaned out the tube and seal with a rag taped to a broom stick, and cleaned the axle. Then lubed the axle seal and axle and put it all back together. Hasen't leaked since and that was two years ago to a stock jeep that had never even seen a gravel road before I bought it.

I'd say do what I did and clean the tube, seal, and axle real good. Be real careful putting the axle back in and it might work out fine. If the axle is grovved bad where the seal rides then replace it or put a speedy sleeve on it.
