2001 TJ Sahara rebuild
« on: October 04, 2015, 11:46:34 AM »
Well, it's been a while since I've had a Jeep. Bought a 2001 Sahara with only 58k in beautiful condition 3 weeks ago that we were going to leave stock, and 2 weeks ago it got hit. I thought maybe it was a sign we shouldn't have another Jeep. The insurance company offered us $8500 and the Jeep back. I guess it was a sign I need to build up one last Jeep.  :P

So, here we go.

Things it needs that I can see so far:

- New wheels and tires (2 got munched)
- Steering box (have, Thanks Johnny)
- Complete Dana 30
- Upper and lower control arms
- All steering linkage
- New front driver's side fender
- Front bumper

The Plan:

- Repair any body damage.
- Have some repainting done
- Gator Guard tub, nose and rockers
- aftermarket front and rear bumpers
- 3" Zone Offroad lift w/ RC fixed lower control arms
- Steering stabilizer
- 5 - MT 15x8 Classic III polished rims
- 5 - 32x11.50R15 BFGoodrich AT KM2
- Warrior mirror relocation brackets with light tabs
- some sort of steel rocker guards

Pics coming.

Figured I would update this thread. I posted it on JJ's but it seems to be all about the JK over there so no one seemed to care too much lol. Seems like a lot of the OJ's are still here.

Anyway, here's the final break down:

5 Factory Gambler rims $400
Complete Dana 30 w/3:73's $400
Steering linkage $40
Steering box (new) $200
Softtop door surrounds $50
4 1.5" wheel spacers $100
5 31x10.50R15 BFG AT KM2's $1295 (includes mount and balance)
Smittybuilt SRC front bumper $220
Smittybuilt XRC rocker guards (w/o tube) $285
Rugged Ridge 4.5" pocket flares $320
Door entry guards $22
Rugged Ridge floor liners (front and rear) $160
Crown Automotive replacement front DS fender $225
Crown Automotive driver's side outer door handle $35
Crown Automotive factory replacement upper control arms $75
RC 3.75" Combo lift w/ N2.0 shocks $515
RC steering stabilizer $65
4 RC fixed LCA's $265
RC front sway bar disconnects $100
RC rear track bar bracket $30
RC grab handles $50
RC 1" motor mount lift $75
RC replacement soft top $290
Gator Guard II bed liner kit $80
Used Passenger door $200
Paint work for 2 doors, 4 fender flares and 1 fender -$800
2 front hub bearings $400
2 front axle shaft U-joints $90
USA Alloy axel tube seals - $100
Alignment $125
Windshield $200
Inspection $350

Total $7515

This project has taken a long time, but I feel it was completely worth it. It drives better than new and turns a lot of heads. With only 60, 000 original k on it, it will last a long time.

It'll last a lot longer than you'll own it, you mean.
if we were smart with our money we wouldn't own Jeeps.

Ya, I don't have the best track record. I think this one might be a keeper though. :)
