Cheap Taurus fan alternative?
« on: February 03, 2016, 12:23:36 AM »
Hey everybody,

I decided I should probably stop being lazy and start prepping the jeep for this season so I'm not panicking the last weekend of March, as usual haha.

One of the big reoccurring issues I've been trying to solve is taurus fans dying shortly after getting submerged in mud.
I burn at least one up every year, so it's getting to be a pain.

Any recommendations? Obviously outside of telling me to stop pretending my jeep is a submarine  :D

It's a LM7 swapped yj and unfortunately there isn't room for a mechanical fan.

Stock Mechanical fan,

I had the same problem, got sick of it and went back to mechanical could not be happier. Worst part is the electric Taurus fan would work *most* of the time when it started its death spiral... and then quietly decide to be a pos...leading my jeep to more than a few unexpected  boil over situations...

Mechanical fans Work every time all the time!

Weird.  I'm ten years on the same Taurus fan and play submarine every time I go out.

Wow, I wish i could get 10 years out of one haha, do you always shut the fan off when entering deep water/hitting shallow water at speed?

Maybe I just have really bad luck with junkyard fans?

Has anyone ever tried spraying their taurus (or other electrical) fan with that NeverWet stuff?

I've had the same problem with my first taurus fan, and I'll see if NeverWet makes a difference with the next one, as it sure worked wonders for keeping my radiator mud-free!

:o I know what I'm doing next time I'm in the garage.

Can you buy that stuff by the gallon? I'll just do the whole jeep with it hahaha

I'm tempted to even do the windows with it, but it looks like it leaves a bit of a hazy residue, so maybe the windshield isn't a good idea... but I'd do almost everything else! I've sprayed my starters and alternators with it and they work fine after. It's handy stuff! The coating doesn't last forever though.

I'm seriously contemplating doing my mastercraft seats and crow harnesses with them after I spend a whole day cleaning them haha

It's sold at Home Depot, maybe other places too but I'm not sure.
It's $20 for 2 cans (its a 2-part process, spray first with can 1, then can 2 after 20 mins)

Isn't the Taurus fan the cheap alternative?? Buy a flex-a-lite or a better rad/fan combo.

IME, FAL fans are complete junk.  They definitely do die the first time they see water.
