D44 30 vs 35 sp?ine
« on: March 24, 2018, 04:05:40 PM »
Well... looks like a new buildup for my rear axle assembly. Housings rare these days for oem swaps.

Is there any downside to going with 35 spline axles in a rear D44 for a TJ vs 30? Maybe 35 splines are hard for hwy use? I'm running 4.10 and 31" tires - don't plan on going more than 33" I don't think.

One issue I could see is maybe the 35 splines become rare for replacement, just like other TJ parts these days. Guess that's the curse of keeping stuff in good shape/rebuilding. :)

Tia!

I would say 35 spline shafts are overkill for what your plans are. Stock shafts would work fine on 35’s. 35 spline shafts will obviously need the corresponding locker. I think only ARB has 35 spline version, might be a couple others. Although not common spare shafts are out there, or upgrade to chromo 30 spline shafts and keep your old ones as spares.
