hey hey, I was just curious about your people's experiences with online fraud / bad purchases... if any of you have actually been put in that situation -- I have... I've bought a salvaged $15,000 car on ebay, only to find out it was totalled while being transported. Looking forward to your feedback!!

with ebay, feedback is everything. a single bad feedback on ebay can ruin someone online rep. Do it.

the old lady is a big ebayer, she gets ripped off once in a while but no more than anywhere else.

as for fraud, once we ordered a mp3 fm transmitter from the US.  a few weeks later a company called asking to verify a $1500 US order we placed for electronics that were being shipped somewhere in south america.  we said no of course and then the credit card company called a bit later and i guess they traced it and got the person.

nothing can compare to UPS or fedex though, they are the biggest rip off next to gas companies.

someone at best buy got my amex #... banff springs hotel, $120 from a florist, dinners and a couple movies to the tune of ~$150... in total, lil over $2200 in a weekend.

called amex, they "investigated" and I had the cash back by the end of the week.

I've been back to best buy a number of times and the person I suspect did it hasn't been around since... I know amex called them, so they may have taken some action as well.

I 've had a couple of bad deals.One was just resolved, after a left a really bad feedback on Ebay. The guy finally shipped my goods after 81 days. Another deal with Planet Jeep on Ebay is not going so good. Auction ended April 30th and I still have not recieved my stuff.
 Best advice I can give is to pay with your credit card. Paypal and Ebay don't give a hoot but your credit card company will refund your money.

ya, ebay is really bad with the not caring.  I paid "Redbox" on ebay thru ppal and he opened a NPB (non paying bidder) greivance on me.  i told him i paid a couple of times until i gave him bad bad feedback for each of the peices i bought.  he shipped quickly thereafter.  i've heard some ppl taking e sellers off of ebay to court over huge purchases ($45 000 vette)  for not recieving them in the condition of the pics (good photoshopping jobs)

For shipping small items, go with USPS (US Postal Service), not UPS.  Had a friend on another forum who was charged a $7.00 fee by them, simply for UPS advancing a $7.20 brokerage fee to his account. Another friend in Calgary was having trouble getting a package, and the third time he called, they told him the driver was at his door, and had been there twice already. Meanwhile, Chirs had been home all morning, and no one was at the door.  Idiots.

USPS is slower, but surer and cheaper.

I was ripped off on ebay by Makomfg for $208US. After a month and a half of no replies to my emails he finaly sent me an email saying he would refund my money...of course a month and a half went by and still no refund by that time he closed up his ebay shop and disapeared. I contacted ebay and paypal and both said it was too late. I contacted visa people and there going to get my money back.
I have since found the guy and he has a new online store. I am  now putting the word out to everyone to not buy from RDSI.com. After a little research I found out he has switched names a half dozen times each time he screws people out of there money and products.
