I need some insight on a problem I have. My rear axle is broken. The pinion is loose. The yoke moves from side to side. I am not sure if the teeth are all busted off or not. Is it an easy job to replace the ring and pinion, or should I get a shop to do it. I want to put in a spool to lock the rear tires.

If anybody would like to help me, I dont mind paying you. And I will even throw in beers. It needs to be towed. Give me a shout. (403) 210-0644 Matt and I am in Calgary.

it's usually pretty simple...just pick up a 4wor mag and look into it...there's usually a couple of axle swaps and ring swaps going on... i think, if you can find it on their website, the project HATARI! Cj-6

had a swap a couple of mnths ago to an air-locker. seemed pretty simple, and if those idiots can do it :lol: then you prolly could too! make sure you save everything

it might be worthwhile to go to the wreckers and pull an old 12 bolt or dana 60 off of a GM or dodge/ford and use that to put the spool in then mount it to the jeep

Calling a gear set up simple is a pretty big understatement. Shops dont charge 700$ an axle just in labor for no reason.

I would recommend you pay a shop, or have someone that knows what they are doing, and has the right equipment to do a gear set up help you at the very least.

well...if you put it that way... the magazine makes it look like anyone with two opposing thumbs can do it,

i've done one or two to say the least. and they ran fine afterwards too.

even changed from 3.73 to 4.11 in my jeep.

if you get your parts and stuff from the right place you should have no probs.

the airlocker in the HATARI! couldn't've been easier...i set one up in my friend's chevy.
