My buddy with a 89 YJ did a SOA lift and since then has a bad viabration problem.  He is considering the SYE and driveshaft before next summer, BUT if he dropped the t-case with like a 3" square tubing, would it work till he saves up enough money to do it properly???  Is there any major problems that would occur because of this?

I hope you mean 3/4" and not 3".if it is 3" he will have a few problems yes.if its a carb motor it can cause a lean condition in the front cylinders.the fan will be hitting the rad, valve cover hitting the fire wall front drive shaft angle problems,and a few other things.

put a 3/4" spacer in,and get some shims for the rear diff and see if that helps.Thats about all he can do on the cheap right now if he doesnt have the money

Yeah thats some obvious problems that we never really thought of...  he already has a 1.5" drop but that is not nearly enough to stop the driveshaft vibrations...  what about about a motor mount lift or something???

Like Spot mentioned , shims to tilt the rear axle up , cheap to do but a cheesy fix.

What would have been better , setting the driveline angle properly at the time of the spring over conversion , before welding the spring perches. When done this way , the transfer case drop spacers can be removed ,........... you gotta have a slip yoke eliminator kit and double cardon driveshaft built to do this.

How's the axle wrap ?

It's gonna bust driveshafts with bad driveline angles and some axle wrap.

A motor lift would just add to the problem

would a longer drive shaft help?  If it were lengthened?

If he has bad vibes, a MML will not change the angle by enough to take them out.

Im guessing he put in enough tilt when he welded the SOA perches and that the driveshaft isnt running at equal angles on both ends.

If he has lift springs, get some stockers until he can SYE it.

If he has stockers, drop that rear shaft for now and pony up for the SYE.

A normal 2 joint shaft needs the same angle on each joint. As in if total angle is 10 degrees, each joint needs 5 degrees on it. Which about max for a single ujoint by the way.

A CV shaft works differently. You point the pinion straight at the t-case output with a about 2 degrees max on the pinion ujoint. Downwards, to accomadate for axle wrap.

The CV knuckle takes up the rest of the angle.

If he tilted straight towards the tcase with the SOA, there isnt much he can do to get a 2 joint shaft to run right, other then drop a lot of lift out of it.

the sye and new drive shaft is like 900 to 1400 thats what national &modern sad do you know any place cheaper to get the stuff or some one that well look at it to c what can be done any help is geart thanks

You are going to get what you pay for in the end.

You can do a cheaper SYE but I personally dont recommend anything except a super short JB.

The super short is about 450 and the driveshaft is about the same. That is the top end you can get, Rob will have the best prices.

1400 is national and modern quoting your the same stuff as well as their labor.

Do it right the first time and save yourself a lot of hassle in the future.
