How hard are these to replace?  Noticed a red puddle under the heep today, dripping off the back of the transfer skid plate.  :(

Hmmm....leak appears to be coming from the gasket seal in between the halves of the case.

No way to crack and reseal this without taking the case off, is there?

You can do it with out pulling the case, but its a lot harder cleaning, working on, and reassembling the case with it installed in the jeep.

Its only 15-20 minutes to pull the case. Half hour tops for somone new to it.

Support your motor and tranny with a jackstand

Drop the t-case skid

Undo the following

Rear shaft
Vacum line for case vent on top of case
Speedo cable
4wd sensor plug
Pry the 4wd shifter link out of its seat
Undo the 6 bolts that hold the t-case in. Typically 14 mm or 9/16's.

Pull the case out.

Put it up on the bench.

Head to a site like Stu Olsens, look up SYE install. Follow his pictures and direction on how to split the case.

Clean up, re seal the case halves and re install the case.

If you have a day to kill, its not to bad of a job.

Good luck

I'm a teacher, so I do end up having a day to kill - it's just a matter of scheduling it with the family.

Thanks, that will help a lot.  I will look into getting a sye, and going that way, as I was planning to raise the jeep up some more than the current 3" bodylift as well.
