Does anyone have experience in changing the wheel bearings out of the fornt for a YJ. I had my heep in today to get some fronyt end work done and they said the wheel bearings in both front wheels need to be replaced. How hard is this to do? Thanks

WOW!! Canadian Tire says you have to replace the whole hub, that the bearings are pressed in and cant be replaced..... $240.99 per side. Does this sound right?

The hardest part is getting the axle hub nut loose, it is torqued to 185 ft-lbs. Other than that:

-remove tire
-remove caliper and rotor
-remove hub hut
-remove hub bolts
-reverse

Or something like that

Yes the price is right, welcome to the world of sealed hubs. However, call around because usually you can get them for under $200 / hub

I would never take anything to canadian tire for repair. I have heard to many horror stories about them.

I've got a hub puller that will make your job easier. I'm back in town tuesday if you want to use it.

That retaining nut is the worst part. I needed a breaker bar and all 200 of my lubs to get her off.

Mine came off easy just use a impact gun

Dam.... now I am just frusterated... I changed the hubs and still have this dam woble...... All the ball joints are tight, tie rod end is tight.... had the alignment done today. Any ideas guys would be appriciated. Smooth ride (well for a YJ) up until about 60 - 65 kms then a woble until about 70 - 75 kms and then smooth again. This happens on when speeding up or slowing down and only at that speed (even if I am in neutral while slowing). :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: The woble is bone jarring or anything but definately can be felt. If I speed up quickly through that zone the woble is minimized. Please help!!

BTW A 8" 3 jaw gear puller worked great for removing the hub. Thanks guys.

Get ur front wheels balanced any shake shinny or wobble that happens at a certian speed range and that can be acclerated through is tires out of balance 95% of the time one sure way to check is rotate ur tires front to rear and the wobble should be gone or have changed to a different speed range if its changed speed range get all 4 balenced

Did you just suddenly develop this wobble or has it been escalating? Are your rims clean and free of mud and other offroading crap. This can cause the wheel to be out of balance. Since it is only happening at a certain speed it would leave me to believe your tires are out of balance. You may have had them done about 5-6 weeks ago, but you could have lost or move a weight, or they may not have been probably balanced the first time. Tires that size can do strange things

Well this morning I exchanged the spare for the front passenger tire and the wobble is almost gone. I guess is was a balancing issue. Thanks for your help guys.
