Dreaded YJ Carb Strategy~
« on: July 10, 2005, 09:55:41 PM »
Ok, so my 88 with the dreaded stock carb is getting rediculous for cold starts.  Ill come out any time of the day, even just 10 minutes after the last time it ran, and i will have to lift the hood, take off the air cap, and physically open the choke plate to max angle in order for it to start.  Carb runs good after that, but what do i do about the choke?  A good friend of mine actually chained his open, so that its always at full (or near) full angle.  Anybody know the pro's & con's of this approach?  Any other tips?

Thanks
~Paul

You could switch to a manual operated choke.

Just replace the electric choke.  If it is the origonal you must drill out three rivets and disconnect one wire.  Then bolt the new one on and adjust it.  Then you are good for another 15 years.  No big deal!  I would be about a 2  on the bananna scale.
