I'd love you to clarify that - he wouldn't move on the price?

AHHH what you need is called a "place holder". You buy a wrecked jeep same model as yours on the premise that having these spare parts at your disposal will save you money in the long run, you can even sell of the parts you don't think you will use to recover some of the purchase price. Then you shove it in the back corner of the yard, just enough so its out of the way but not out of sight so she can still see it everyday. Strip all the goodies off that you want and squirrell them away in the garage. Then let it sit. After awhile she'll get sick of looking at it bug you to get rid of it. Makesome lame excuse about how handy it is to have those parts. Evetnually she'll quit buggin you.

Then when you see something you want  to bring home tell her all about and when she shuts you down start to negotiate. If you can have this "new" toy you'll get rid of that old piece of scrap out back. She''ll be so excited to have the thing gone she won't care what you bring home.

Its like re-arranging the living room, same old crap but for some reason it looks better to her!  :D

Note, Doesn't apply to upgrading wife1.0 to mistressvB0.6 or wife2.0!

But does apply, a little bit of pain, frustration in the beginning to get it all setup; but worth it when the time comes to pickup the item of desire.

Smartest two bits of info I have come across this site. This should be stickied!

   thanks for the great advice.. you do make lots of valid points..  i wonder if i could even convince her that the first "parts" jeep is going to be a project jeep for her..     unfortunately i dont drive a 46 or 47, so maybe i can send her on a vacation, then when she gets back and sees the jeep, she really cant complain..   can she?

I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.

Or do like I did.  I bought an older Mercedes for $200 at a garage sale, stating that the parts alone were worth more than that, and there was a possibility of getting it running.  Found out the head was cracked on it, so let it sit for five months, then sold it for $400 (still a heck of a deal considering the parts left on it). Made $200 and there is NOTHING she can complain about regarding it. She asked once how much I spent trying to get it running, and I told her "$13 for a new ratchet and some feeler guages." End of story.

Now when I look at something to "buy cheap and sell for more later on", the only thing she can complain about is the fact that it might sit for a while. ::
