TJ flares on a YJ
« on: December 11, 2006, 09:07:47 PM »
Got a 95 YJ with a 3" BL.  If I got a set of TJ flares to swap with the current flares, two questions:

1 - is there anything different to do with these, or is it a simple cut and replace?  i.e. couple of different mods you could try, or just the one thing?
2 - what could I stuff under there - 33's?

Thanks.

Here is a website for you to look at, http://www.bc4x4.com/tech/2001/tjflares/.  Depending on how crazy you get with the cutting tool you may have ot weld the inner and outer fenders back together.

As for tires size, I hope the 3" BL is just temporary, but 33s probably should fit with minor rubbing and if they do rub just a 1" shackle lift and you should be set

The 3" BL came with the Jeep....why should it just be temporary?

3" BL puts a lot of strain on the body bolts, plus in my personal opinion I don't like the look of them, but the strain is the major reason

How bad are they for it? Should I be getting rid of it, or is it just not adviseable?

3" BL's are fine...steve Jueco has been running a 3" BL on his TJ since '98 and his Jeep has been thru hell and back.

Might not be so great on a rusted out old CJ, but it'll be fine on your YJ.

People run them all the time.

Well, that would be a good thing, as it appears to be welded into place.

You will want to stitch the sheet metal back together if you cut the full amount to actually accomadate tj flares.

With TJ flares, and a 3inch BL, 33's would be easy, and 35's would not be to hard.

Good, planning a small spring lift as well, so there will be room to grow.  :)
