utility trailer upgrade
« on: December 29, 2006, 05:22:26 PM »
Blew a wheel on my utility trailer, and I'd like to upgrade it from the crappy little 8" wheels it currently has.  I'm using it to pull behind the YJ right now, so I'm looking for options on upgrading it.

Do I get:

a - new 8" wheel
b - new set of wheels and rims in a larger size
c - crappy Dana 35 and install it onto the trailer so I can fit full size tires on a 15" rim

There are differnet  load ratings for tires. If you are happy with the way it rides and its ride height, you may want to consider just getting a heavier duty 8" tire.

I had a simiolar problem with my tent trailer. Crappy Tire kept selling me 4ply tires that only lasted one season. Eventually I went to Kal Tire and got a set of 8ply tires. Those lasted untill I sold it.
