Flat fender, indicator lights/lookout for that tree project
« on: January 02, 2007, 08:36:21 AM »
The jeep should be back today and I can continue with the flat fender project. The first thing on the list is to move the front indicator lights. The driver side one in the stock fender did not survive the tree and I need to start driving the jeep again for work.

I know that lots of the guys use the old CJ indicators for the conversion. Both Modern and National are currently out of stock and have a 3week+ wait. I am going up to Princess Auto to see what they have today that might work.

I did not want to spend time doing a LED conversion right now and want to make this as simple as possible. Who has other suggestions for a good place to look for front indicator lights?

Greggs Distributors might have something, or maybe a hitch/trailer shop

Yeah, everyone carries those little lights, even autovalue.

I agree, put normal lights in there and keep it simple.

I am very excited.  The jeep came back from having the engine work done. It runs well but still looks abused. Now it is time to get back to work on the flat fendering project, paint and body repair work. It was nice to be able to drive it again.  8)

I still have not made the final choice for signal lights but will tomorrow. The only other part I need is a new fan. Anyone have a nice strait one in the garage?

I thought you were going to wait a couple more years before you got into the "HARDCORE" mods?

Dom is correct it was a very expensive day on the trail.  Flat fendering is to replace the damaged driver’s fender it is just part of the repair list.

Other repairs, new head gasket, head required resurfacing, new temp sensor in head, oil change, repair dent in front of drivers door, paint work,  front bumper replacement, it needs a new fan, new radiator, replaced bent tie rod and it will need an alignment as well. Before it can have a proper alignment one of the front wheel bearings needs to be replaced. One tire needed to have the bead cleaned out and be remounted.  It needed new front break pads as well. Not all repairs were a result of the trail accident and subsequent overheating but most were.  While I am having paint work done to the fenders and dent my new custom rear bumper is going to get painted.

Yes Dom is right the check book felt the real pain. A big thanks to Bill for the used parts and to Dom for parts and a tow to Calgary. It has saved big $$ on some of the repairs.

If  I can get the flat fenders on this weekend, dent repaired and the wheel bearing in then I hope to get the paint work finished the next weekend.

My next door neighbor has done auto bodywork for 30 years and is helping with the dent repair and paint work.

The jeep may not be ready for the trail for a few more weeks. But at least it now moves on its own power.

Wheeling is a great time and the winter camping trip was great. The jeep will be back on the trail but a note to new guys. A small error in judging an obstacle on the trail can result in an expensive day. We hope it does not happen to often but it can. It is a risk we must accept when running the trails. Wheeling is still a blast when the crap happens you just need to fix it, learn from your mistakes and get on with it.

Too funny Blair, I feel your pain, but I know you will be back better than ever, and when you do, you won't have to worry about crunching the front fenders anymore.
