Well my dad is getting to the stage of looking for new tires for his new unlimited rubi, and he probably will be going with 285/75/16 tires, so here are the questions.  He will be spending the majority of his time on the road, but wants a tire that will perform good offroad (he wants to try to keep up with me), so we were pondering the following tires:

1.  MTR - decent all around tire, no siping, not the greatest in the mud
2.  BFG MT - like the MTR but better in the mud
3.  Copper STT - similar design to the MTR, siping and suppose to be better in the mud than the MTR
4.  Toyo MT - again like the MTR and very similar to the STT

So what are peoples thoughts?  Who have ran these tires?  I have ran MTRs and they are decent, but I think there are better tires now.  If he goes with the MTR or BFG, he will most likely get them siped.

Toyo's all the way.

I have that exact tire on my truck, just picked up 10 more last night for my freinds 2 jeeps.

They are an awsome all around tire.

Sorry to hijack the thread but How are all of the above in ice and snow in the winter?  I still need to get new 33" rubber for those 4.10's

The toyo's are good in the snow an ice.

I take my truck to the feild once in a while, and have been in a few bad snowstorms. They worked really well.

The more sipes the better for ice as that is what provides traction.  My siped MTRs are very good on ice.  All these tires should be very good in snow on the streets because of the larger voids.  However, another thing you have to keep in mind is how hard the rubber gets in cold weather, softer tires usually have better traction.

My dad is kind of leaning towards the STTs or Toyos because they are already siped, whereas both the MTRs and BFGs are not.

My vote is for the Cooper STT's

That's what I have , Definatly better than MTR's in the mud, Better than the stock MTR's on ice, but I don't know about the Siped MTR's.

Siped MTRs still suck in the mud, but the sipes improve wear and ice handling

Wow those cooper stt's are not cheap 1334.03 all inclusive for a set of 33X12.5 15's installed and balanced.  That was at OK tire on Mcleod in the south.....

They are a lot cheaper than MTRs.  Price of tires are going up shortly or at least goodyear products

I currently have siped MT/R's in the 35" flavour.

Offroad they perform well year round although they still suck in the mud.

On road, they perform surprisingly well in all conditions (considering they are not really a winiter tire)

I've had 5 sets of BFT AT's in 30", 31", 32", 33" & 35"

I am about a week away from ordering my 6th set of the BF's
