4.2L - CJ/YJ difference?

Have started keeping my eyes open for a used engine for my 89 YJ.  Wondering if there is any difference between a CJ engine (could I switch over my new clutch fan, alternator, water pump, timing set....)?  Could I use a 4.0L from an XJ and put my intake and new carb on it.  Not in a big panic right now, but before may long have 'er dun!!!

I only know a couple small diffs.     Ummm I know that i took about 50 lbs of stupid vacuum hoses and wires off the old engine and my firewall. Emissions is a not an option for me .......besides I like the warm summers.

I had an 87 YJ that easily received a motor from a 79 eagle with no problem.  Just make sure you change over your distributor and carb to work with the factory computer, or check jeeptech.com for instructions on how to bypass the computer entirely.

aren't all 4.0L's fuel injected? and if so you would need the computer and you couldn't use your carb.
I'm pretty sure the motor mounts and bolt partern are the same, so wiring will be the main issue. Correct me if I'm wrong.
You'd probably need to keep your tranny as the newer trannys were hydrolic and had different linkages I ran into this problem when putting a yj tub on a cj frame and running gear yj tub didn't have holes in the firewall for certian things or they weren't in the right place.

if you want ill sell you the AMC 258 (carb'd) out of the wrecked 89' YJ i just bought. i just need the tranny and tcase out of it.
