Twisted Shackle
« on: January 26, 2007, 03:39:15 PM »
Check out my front shackle, it is twisted to the righthand side and I do not know why.  Now I did have an alignment done yesterday and I did not notice this problem before the alignment.  The other front shackle is fine.  Could this be the cause?  Also I was thinking of loosening the axle bolts to relax the spring and then re-tighten to hopefully fix this.  Opinions please.

Did you pull your front track bar?

Longer shackles, and no front trackbar will make that mild twisting more noticable.

Normal.

Park somewhere else it will be twisted the other way.

Park again somewhere, they might be even.

Park again, they might both be twisted.

Pretty common.

You can double check and retorque things, but its never ending.

The trackbar is still there.  I asked the shop to remove it because i did not have the right size socket and the guy would not remove it because he felt it was not safe, so be it.  I will do it later.

It is actually quite noticeable when you stand back and look at both

The trackbar is probably pulling the axle to that side then. It isnt the right length for that much lift and is trying to off center you axle.

They do get twisty, but shouldnt be fixed one way and or overly pronounced.

It is causing a rotational stress on your spring, which it really was not designed for
