Well, if you haven't bought a radio yet, one of these would make it really easy.
http://www.cobra.com/index.php?page=shop/flypage&product_id=5&id=1The whole radio is in the handheld mic portion, and the "junction box" contains the power connectors, the antenna plug and the pigtail to the mic. Fits super nice under the dash.
There are a few folks around here with them. I for one, have no problems with mine.
As for antenna's, the "beside the hood" bracket should do great. But remember that the antenna "sees" the metallic ground plane beneath it. So if the antenna is on the passenger side of the hood, then you are going to get better tx out to the front, drivers side, and rear; with bad range to the passenger side. Same thing goes if the antenna is on the drivers side, good front, back, passenger side, bunk to the left. *Best* bet, if you vitally depend on the cb, do a dual antenna setup, one on either side of the hood, trucker style. That way you get wickid range all around.
Talk to the guy at ComTek in the RoadKing Truckstop, he can hook you up real good.
Good luck!
