Starter rebuild for a 4.2L
« on: February 14, 2007, 11:54:21 AM »
I have a 1990 YJ and it had a starter issue due to warn brushes. I spent
a half day trying to find the brushes and everyone wanted to sell me a new starter for $200 plus. If your looking for brushes or parts to rebuild a starter go to the Airways Napa across from Hooters. For $12.00 dollars I have the parts to fix it, all I need to do is solder in the wire connections.
They have a very knowledgeable person in the back that will help you find the parts, and they will sell the pieces.

Would you have the part number for the starter or what ford vehicle it is off of as Autovalue did not tell me this when I was there. I guess I should have asked you folks this.

Last one I did was for an 82 CJ5 with a 4.2 (its listed)

Should be the same starter. For 150$ difference, its worth trying.

Which autovalue did you go to? If you are in the south, use the one by the new casino. Thats where I go, so they are pretty up to speed on jeep parts, and there is also a jeep guy that works there.

Same goes for old 4.2's? Thats what this guy was lookin for. They are oldschool ford starters.

Since you are in here. Got time in the near future to redo my m6000? The motor is tired, and the brake is almost shot.

ATI rebuilt my alternator for a JDM Mitsubishi 2.5L diesel. I'm sure a CJ starter should be no problem!
