I can't tell you much about hitches but if you are going to use it as a tow point the bigger the better.

Depending on the price you are being quoted for a hitch. I have a class three Mopar hitch, 2” receiver,  in my garage. I was told it would fit a TJ, but did not see the vehicle it came off.  It's your if you want to try it $100. If it does not fit a TJ you can return it to me.

Go to u-haul on blackfoot and get a class 3 hitch, cheapest in Calgary and it is made by the parent company who owns all of Draw-Tite, Hidden-Hitch and Reese.

just make sure that it is at least a class III with the 2"x2" receiver.  It will make it easier as a tow point

Hey all, please forgive the ignorance  :? , but I have a question about the whole rear tow point thing as well.  I am a total newbie trying to get things organized to come out for some beginner runs and join the club.  In regard to the rear tow point, my jeep has a hitch (that I don't need for anything), but unlike what BlackYJ stated, it is not a class III.  Its ~1.5X1.5 inch.  So my question is, can this be used for a rear tow point? If not, can someone point me in a new direction?

Thanks in advance.

By the way, this site is great and I am really looking forward to getting out with everyone on some stocker runs in the upcoming year!

Yes it can, I have used a 1"x2" before.  The only reason I am recommending a 2"x2" receiver is that there are aftermarket parts that can be used inconjunction with the receiver for a tow point.  However, you have a TJ and there already is a spot on the frame on the driver's side where you can mount a rear tow hook (stock Jeep part)
