which way should I go ????
« on: April 28, 2007, 09:22:04 PM »
put in the 4 inch lift, put on the 33" tires and now I think I want to upgrade my drivetrain. The four cylinder is fine but I want more power. I was thinking of buying a junker XJ and pulling the drivetrain out and put it in my YJ or does anyone have any better idea's. I don't like the idea of messing around with driveshaft's so I thought I should keep it all Jeep.

With all the experience on this board I hope to get some good advice.

Thanks for any idea's

John

if your lifting it 4 inchs,I'm not positive, but I think youll have to modify your rear shaft,I think the 4.ol(6cyl.)would be a really good swap, and keeping it all jeep will make a heck of alot easyeir!

the lift is already in and I did not have to do anything with the rear shaft so then it should be a straight swap over. I am going to look at a donor xj on Monday and I am hoping my luck will be in and it will have a rear 44. Does anyone know what years and models had a 44 ??

thanks

John

Last year I swapped in the drivetrain from a XJ into my YJ to replace the angry squirrels, it was a great swap.  However it still is a lot of work and just to point out, the 4.0L drivetrain is longer than the 4 banger, so your rear shaft will be SHORTER.  Therefore you will probably need a SYE kit and a CV shaft or a motor mount lift and t-case drop.

As for the XJs with 44s, I believe the most popular is around 87-88
