Headlights stays on
« on: May 28, 2007, 08:20:25 PM »
Here my deal...

I shut off the heep tonight and my stupid headlights stayed on  .

I checked the fuses. I thought it was my day time lights. I pulled the fuse for my day time lights they still stays on.

Here's the what it does.....

Even if my headlights switch (which is on my dash in an XJ) is off and my keys are not even in the ignition my headlights stay on. I can  "sometimes" put on my highbeams on when I play with the signal arm on my steering collum. I also hear a funny noise in my stearing collum when I try to put on my HB on (like a short cut noise).

I think it's my stupid signal lights arm thigny that is screwed....

Anybody had a similar problem or have any opinion on that  :?:

Did you pull the fuse or unplug the daytimer lights under the hood or dash.  If you did that under the dash I would check under the hood and disconnect them there.  My dad in his old cherokee went through a couple daytimer run lights modules

Well I can say that if your xj is doing that.It is 2/3's of the way to catching on fire. The box your looking for should be located on the pass side fender well about a foot in front of the blower motor.black box around 3"x4"

I agree with SPOT, I had the same problem my lighting harness eventually melted. I changed the light switch in the dash but that didn't help, finally figured out the was big fuse block thing (not sure of the tech term) under the hood not the one under the dash.

I unpluged my battery because it was smelling like melted plastic right near that stupid black box.  :?

So the XJ could catch on fire?

Are you talking about the black power distribution box with the all fuses in it? The one the "usually the alternator sends its charge to (I say "usually" because my boosted alternator is connected directly to my batery)? I have to take another look under the hood.

I would have to change that?...and it "should " be ok?

Thanks for all the input guys!!!! :D

its the DRL module, just unplugging it will allow most headlight functions to operate propperly. You will have 2 issues if you leave it unplugged. 1. you will no longer have daytime running lights. 2. you will no longer have a high beam indicator in your instrument cluster.

depending on the Y/M/M of your jeep you might be able to find a good used part at the wrecker.

I would just disconnect it. I'd hate to come home and see my jeep burned to the ground.
