Any one recommend a good place for a Tranny flush on a

2000 Grand Cherokee Limited.


Close to Standens would be great as I work in the area.

Just get it drained, filter replaced and re-fill it with fresh fluid.

I have heard of the filter being destroyed by flushing the tranny and ultimately destroying the tranny itself.

I've been told that without a proper flush you'll never get the old fluid out of it, especially from the cooling rad up front.

I had one done on my Grande at National Transmision on macleod (across from hooters) $140, they also replaced the filter.

i used to work for fountain tire. our trans flush machine would do the flush, then you'd change the filter. i used to flush out sometimes up to 16 litres on a tranny. if you drop the pan you may notice only a couple liters are actually held in the pan. most of it is in the torque converter. so yes, a full flush may cost more, but its worth it. and be sure to use the proper fluid.

can you do it yourself?

i've seen quite a few writeups on the web on how to do it and seems quite simple.  ie.  a bucket with fresh oil, empty bucket to catch the old oil.  disconnect the tranny cooler lines, and put them in the correct bucket.  start engine, new oil is pulled/sucked in while old oil is pushed out.

i've never tried it but i know many people have done it and written about it.  food for thought i guess.

Unfortunatly the two bucket method would never work unless you took the pan off and one hose was shoved into the pickup on the trans where the filter used to be(I do not reccomend this).  Due to the fact that at the trans cooler line there is no suction only pressure.

hrm, makes sense.  i remember the first guy who posted about it said he poured the fluid into the filler tube but had a hard time keeping up with the tranny so had top stop and start quite a few times.  i should find that thread and see what the ending was heh, might not be a good one.

ok, i must comment. if you feel that you want to go to wal-mart or any other "cheeper" sort of oil change facility. ask to talk to the guy that will be working on your vehicle. im not knocking anyone here. but i know these places hire very young and new people to do their work. just be sure that a qualified person is working on it. a tranny flush can be screwed up very easily by someone that doesnt know. then again, ive seen it happen at regular shops as well. i guess you get what you pay for. good luck.
