fuel gauge not right
« on: June 13, 2007, 10:27:27 PM »
well im driving home from work today, windows down, hair in the wind, and 3/4 tank of gas, then **putt**putt**putt**pupphh**. so my first though was gas, so i look over at my guage, and like i said before 3/4 of a tank. now would this be a problem with my float inside of the tank or could this be electrical, or even the guage itself?? its deffenatly not a huge concern for me right now but still when i get everything else on the jeep good to go, i would like to know where to start.

your not alone ,  my gas hand occasionally rests on 1/4 tank ... first time I noticed it took 77.5L to fill ...

I have more faith in my trip odometer now ... there's probably a way to test to determine if its guage or sending unit ...  anyone  :?:

Do you have a dent in your skid plate?

I got one in mine and now empty is 1/8 of a tank.  I learned that one the hard way

Ground the signal wire for the fuel guage and check the guage.  It should read over full.  If the guage sweeps to over full then your wiring is normally o.k. and you need to repalce the sending unit in the tank.
