here goes the trail repair projects we wanted to do in IG...

This is BS!!! The 4X4s didn't even have a chance to voice our opinion again!     ....

We work hard to keep an area open and we get shot in the back again... great!

Thanks for posting the info Tim

The North side of the road (Catarac Creek) is basically Kannanaskis. We are not alowed there Eric.

Very sad news...

What's weird is that me and Blair just received a letter from Darryl Johnson Thanking the CJA for our effort in the "Respect the Land" project and the cleaning up we did on May long. I just received it today...

I just don't understand  :(

So is IG not the location it is labeled as on the map?  Or is that not he part we normally wheel?  It's on the north side of the highway on the map.  Closure appears to be all south.

Closure is South of the 532... with in the green lines. It's definatelly closing the wheeling area where we were allowed to go... it's gone!

Let me know when you come to town. We due for a beer somewhere!

SAD DAY LOST A GOOD PLACE TO WHEEL.

Well That Sucks!!

What can I say? With this new storm of closures please try to keep the long term goals of the responsible recreational users in focus. If an area is closed then wheel some other place. If you are breaking the rules and are on closed trials it reflects badly on all of us. Please continue to "Tread Lightly".

Yes this sucks after our hard work in this area. Will I sell my jeep tomorrow? - NO. Will I continue to work on trail projects and with SRD in other locations to regain and improve other trails? - YES. The closure does not appear to be fair to the users with larger vehicles that use the area responsibly. However, it does not mean I will quit trying to fix things.

Did I jump the gun on this one? Did I missinterpret it? To single out one group of users on in the off-highway comunity is wrong! Maybe someone with better computer skills can find a map or something on the gov. web site.

So now where is everyone going to wheel? It's not like everyone is going to sell their rigs and buy quads.

What the heck does the government think? That the mess was caused by the 4x4ers. Do they think that if you drive a bike or a quad then you must be a good citizen and don't cause any damage. Do they think that banning 4x4's will stop the grad party's ?

So I guess this is going to put even more strain on Maclean now. I guess we know what's coming next.

But just like Blair said, I'm not going to give up maintaining the area's we are allowed to use. I will keep picking up garbage, building fences and bridges. I will keep showing the gov't that there are responsible citizens out there.

Driving a 4x4 is not a crime and I am getting extremely annoyed that the gov't thinks we are all just a bunch of drunken rednecks ripping and tearing up the enviroment.
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.

Mclean will be gone in a year.  It is seeing way to much overuse.

No more day trips allowed for Calgarians.

Life sucks.  Might as well buy a quad.

In all of the meetings and commities with government groups has the idea of user fees for these areas ever come up.  If a fee was substantial enough and the penalty for using the area without a pass was high enough it would keep the "rowdys" out and allow the responsible users to enjoy the areas in peace.  A system sililar to the Banff pass that people have to purchase when entering the Banff national park.  This system would be fairly simple to set up, the infastructure could be accomplished through Alberta registries.  The system for fines could be as simple as anyone found in recreation area withouth the pass would be subject to a hefty fine(like Banff).  This would also give the government additional money to manage the lowered and managable environment impact in recreation areas.  To me this seems like it would solve most of the problems for good and allow responsible hobbiest's like ourselve to continue to do what we love.  Maybee this is too simple and the beurocrats like to complicate things

I encourage everyone who would like to continue to use their vehicles that they have put thousands of dollars into start to let your voice be heard.  Write a letter, make a phone call do something and do it over and over until you have a response.  All the hard work that the idividuals have put into these areas through volenteer time will have been for nothing if we all dont speak up.  As a whole the community can make alot of noise that will be hard to ignore.

Hello my fellow responsible 4x4 users. I’m preparing a letter to Ted Morton and all of SRD along with Community Development (parks).

I’m looking for as much information regarding projects that has been done over that last 5 years where 4x4 clubs have been involved. If you have photos along with locations please get contact me through email at [email protected]
I’m away for 2 weeks so I will not be able to reply until I return. Once I return I will put my letter together along with a very large document and send copies off to SRD as well to the media.

Regards,

David Dunlop
