Oil Pressure gauge constantly Pinned to the MAX
« on: August 13, 2005, 01:00:52 PM »
Recently i just did some minor work on replacing the rear main seal and slappin on a new oil pan gasket.  To what i remember, my gauge didnt have this problem before, nor the truck itself.  So now when im sitting idle, the gauge sits just beyond the "6" and if i rev it, the needle goes even FURTHER. Now my oil levels are perfect, no problem there.  The truck drives fine, but jesus im just worried that maybe it isnt just the gauge, and that maybe there is something really wrong and my truck is gonna explode.  Anybody else have any gauge problems?

Thanks for the help

my oil pressure sender went on the fritz, the gauge started by going low then to zero, and once the computer figured out what was wrong it now just leaves the needle maxed out all the time.  Once I replace the sender it'll go back to normal.

Does the needle return to normal after the engine is completly warmed up? Mine goes max until the engine warms up then idles at 3.5. pretty normal.

I had this problem on mine .. it would run in the middle and then peg to the high side. I removed the gauge cluster and cleaned all the contacts on the rear of each gauge. A few months later it seemed to be getting a little low, so I replaced the sender on the engine .. all is fine now.
