I didn't hear anything official about any closure at Maclean..... but if some people continue to act like idiots out there ...it will close!

Something has to happen... it's too much of a shyt show out there during the long week-ends. When I see a burnt car in the bush or tracks of someone who ripped off a side hill... It makes me sad because I know what will happen.  If the Government thinks they can't control the situation out there and it looks bad on them.. they will take the easiest route and close the whole thing to trucks... Look what happen in  Waiporous and Indian Graves recently... It basically all closed up because it was out of control on May long week ends.

It's sad but it will happen if we don't take care of what we have!

People need to know ...the Government allows us to wheel in these areas... they are not our properties. Lets not take our playgrounds for granted and take good care of them.

Hope to see you all on the trails  ...for a long time. :D

Sorry for the rant...That's all I have to say...

When I was out there last weekend I couldn't believe the mess the logging companys leave. They toatally rip up the forest, take the big trees and leave all the small trees and brush just lying on the ground. They don't clean nothing up and they don't re-plant anything. It looks like a friggen wasteland. But all we ever see or hear in the media is those big bad 4X4 trucks-look what they are doing to the land :x Somebody needs to take the media out on the trails so they can see this destruction for themselves.

When I was out there last weekend I couldn't believe the mess the logging companys leave. They totally rip up the forest, take the big trees and leave all the small trees and brush just lying on the ground. They don't clean nothing up .

They leave behind the brush on purpose, It helps renew the forest, the brush rots and helps regenerate the soil and helps the new trees's grow.

I live in a house built out of wood, as do most off us, the logs have to come from somewhere,
Spray lake sawmills have been very co-operative with the off road community, leaving trails alone for us, leaving bridges behind in the areas they are done logging, and they have helped our cause in other ways as well.
This is the last year that there will be logging at maclean creek. They are moving up to the ghost/waiparous area due to the pine beetle

I am getting fed up off people bad mouthing the logging and oil and gas industries, They are the reason we have such a great economy in Alberta, they are the reason good paying jobs are easy to find here.

We have got a lot of positive press this year from the media from the clean-up in Indian Graves and the various projects  at Maclean and Waiparous. In previous years there has been negative press that IS changing

The problem is not the logging industry. It is not the members from groups like the CJA, Fourwheel Stampders, Quad squad,RMDRA etc.

The problem IS the redneck party crowd, the grad party's, the lowlifes that steal vehicles from the city and bring to the off road areas to destroy and burn.

Is Maclean going to shut down?? I'd bet my last dollar that if we see all the buttheads that caused the destruction last May long at Indian Graves come to Maclean this next may long and cause the same damage it will take the goverment about 3 seconds to shut it down.

Let's focus on the problem. We need to let the party crowd know they are not welcome at maclean, If they want to steal and burn cars do it in the city, If they want to get drunk and do drugs untill they nearly kill themsleves, do it at home,

Rant over,
for now

Well that was the first time I've gotten up close to a clear cut area and I think it still looks like friggen crap. What trees are gonna grow there? I didn't see any new ones planted. Does SprayLakes replant these areas they cut down? I've seen areas in BC that were clear cut 8 years ago and there are now 3 foot high trees growing there now cause they cleaned up replanted. Also they are also selectivly cutting and hauling out with helicopters which thins the forest to allow the smaller trees to grow faster. Yes more expensive but... wheres the Tread Lightly for them? Do you mean to tell me running over a hillside with heavy machinery is ok, but making ruts on trails with a 4X4 is so bad (in the medias eyes)? I am aware that they work with us and cooperate I'm just annoyed at their logging practices. Logging is BC's only industry (aside from the bud logging) and they seem to take much better care of their forests through replanting and selective logging. I agree the main problem is the yahoo's and our sorry aS$ government for not putting up the money for more officers and enforcing the idiots.

I do alot of huntin up in the caroline/rockymountain house area, and there are a lot of clear cuts up there. I did the research a while back as a school project, but TJ45 is right. They take all the unusable brush and timber and spread it out in the clear cut area. This material then rots and adds nutrients back into the soil. The logging company then leaves the area to recover for the next 3-4 years. After that period they come back and do the replanting. it's usually a 10 year process for each cutting area.
