Finally got my ARB's all hooked up...
« on: January 07, 2008, 11:02:22 AM »
and wouldn't you know it... the rear leaks like a sieve.  Its leaking inside the housing somewhere... I can hear the air coming out the breather... and when I pinch the breather off you can here the air stop escaping and the pump noise changes.

I am going to have to take the diff cover off for sure but was wondering if anyone has experience with ARB's and where they commonly leak?  You think that much air escaping could be the ARB unit itself (o-rings or something)?... or likely a problem with the hardline inside the diff?

have to take it off to see.  does it smell like oil a lot?  the way yours was soldered in could be the hardline, just can't remember if that was the front or back.

call modern and tell them your arb model numbers, order up a few o-rings.  i ordered 4 and cost me $12 but took about 2 weeks, worth having either way.

Let me tell you how excited I am about the possibility I have to pull the carrier out again  :(

I think both the front and the back ended up being soldered... several times.  I am hoping its just a leak around the fitting or something... I really don't want to pull the carrier again.  I do have a couple spare 0-rings I think.

all you have to do really is pull the diff cover and turn your arb on and off to find the leak.  100psi is easy to feel, or blow some smoke in there heh

Just don't tell anyone where you got those diffs from, or they won't touch them! :P

Seriously though...those things have been jimmy'd and Gerry rigged by every shade tree machanic in town!

Let me put it to you this way...they have been riddin' and worked harder than Pam Anderson! :o

Good luck,

Smurf

About the only thing thats still original in both axles is the housing and the ARB unit itself.  The gears/bearings/axles/covers have all been replaced.  Hopefully I'll fix the air leak this weekend... then I can start thrashing them myself ;)

Was it cold when you tried it?

Sometimes they just do that in the cold. Get it warm, and try it, pull ahead, try it, back up, try it.

If you get it to stick, its just an oring seating thing. Denises does it all the time.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like a$$hat, but I hate it when people buy garbage, and are not told the whole story behind them...and these diffs have ALOT of stories behind them.

Hahaha... no worries... I am just trying to convince myself that I'll be OK!  Its going to truly suck if I have to ditch these diffs for something else... I have a lot of money and time into them now.
