Cobra 75, great little unit....but if you are talking about the mobile squak box's...save your money,...unless you spend lots on one ($250+) they are junk, the ones rented at the Jamboree are good motorola's, even they are shite and work at best about 50' if there's nothing inbetween you and the reciever...you could yell further...

I have a Cobra75, and I quite like it. All compact, and everything in the handheld mic portion, no large box to install somewhere.

A handheld is a good idea for portability, but if I were to do that route, I would still get an externally mounted antenna on the Jeep, and jack the handheld into that antenna, much better range with that.

Good luck!

I only got my antenna and cable, and misc bits at Comtek at the Roadking.
Not sure what he sells the 75's for though.

I bought mine at www.radioworld.ca, and they are still listed at $199.
But I bought some GMRS/FRS radios as well, so my total came to over $300 and so I got free shipping. But this was sept or oct last year.

I suspect, if you buy the whole package from ComTek, that his calculator based accounting system will give you a deal, he tends to round down, sometimes a fair bit if you buy lots of stuff.

Good luck!

So everyone likes the 75 for compactness, or is there other good things about it? Do the Wal-Mart Cobras (19DXIV, 18WXSTII) suck then? Im looking for a regular CB to mount where the stereo used to be, since I've moved the stereo to the Tuffy console.

You can buy a second cable box for a few bucks to install in another vehicle and just take the handset with you.

I like it because I can take the handset out and antenna off and there's no tempting CB on show for potential thieves.

Have a look on Ebay, you can new ones for around $100 on there.  I bought one and it's great.
