Heater Motor for a 88 YJ
« on: February 19, 2008, 05:13:50 PM »
I guy at work needs to change the heater motor in the sons 88 YJ.
I was asked what is involved and I don't know. We looked at the CT manual and it did not say anything useful.
So I'm putting out to the experts.
Way
Why does your Jeep say Toyota on it?
The obstacle is the path.

I'm afraid it's not that simple , the heater needs to come out from under the dash.

So , drain cooling system , carefully remove heater hoses , locate all the 1/4" fasteners inside the engine compartment and remove them I think there's four or five of them , some in hidden locations , wrestle the heater back far enough to get at the fasteners which hold the motor/fan in ,   carefully remove fan from the old heater motor and install on new motor , reverse the procedure to put it all back together , paying attention to the defroster ducts n' stuff so it all goes back in as it was before messing with it.

A pain in  the butt to do and there's no easy way to do it , as with most vehicles when dealing with heater motors / heater cores and dissassembly of the dash.

If you want the heater right out of the vehicle , the control cables need to be disconnected , be careful , the control is fragile and easily broken.
