Difference Between 4.11's and 4.10's
« on: March 05, 2008, 02:50:24 PM »
Hey Guys
Question about gear ratios.
Was looking at getting some 4banger diffs to for a cheap upgrade of gears for 3.07 to 4.11.
But i have noticed some guys out there in the jeep world running an 8.8 in the rear
with 4.10's.
Wonder what would be the difference between the 4.11 in a D30 and 4.10 in an 8.8
Would it be do able or not?
I know the gears should be the same to have 4wd but they are .01 difference wonder if
there is a difference at all.

Thx Murdajeep

Its 4.10's in the jeep as well, although it makes no difference.

Its just the division of the pinion teeth number into the ring gear number. Slight variation is all.

411 is an old chev ratio if I remember correctly, and its used by a lot of people as a standard term for all diffs in that range. Be a dana 410, chev 411, or ford 409. Its all the same pile.

I am running 4.10s with my 33s and 4.0L and like it.  A lot of people on here will tell you to go deeper like 4.56s, but since the D30 will come with 4.10s, I would not worry about regearing it yet

Hard on the clutch and no 5th gear.

Thx Guys

my dana 35 is (err was heh) 4.11 not sure about the dana 30 though.  not sure why, probably was a cheaper option for whoever put em in, or didn't know the difference when the shop bent him over?  anyhoo 37/9 teeth rather than 41/10.

from what i keep reading and hearing is that as long as the front and rear diffs are within .03 they will be fine... and as long as yer off road im sure it wouldnt make a difference anyways.
useless info, sand and mud drag cars use a different ratio front to rear for two reasons that i know of.  diferent tire sizes front to rear, and if the front ratio is faster it will keep the front end stayin straight.
as well ive heard that some rally racer guys with AWD will sometimes run more front bias so that if they get squirelly they can hit the gas and straighten out.
im sure there may be other reasons too, but these are what i heard.
if you have a huge difference front to rear you will know right away!
