I need advice on Putting spacers on my 95 ZJ
« on: March 11, 2008, 12:32:34 PM »
hello, i am interested in widening the stance on my stock 95 ZJ as i am going to pick up some newer style ZJ rims. I am thinking of 1.5 inch spacers. I realize its straightforward but would like to know if anyone has done this and encountered any problems (ie wheel contact with the wheel wells/fenders). I will be sitting on stock tires for now as well, looking to put 2" body lift on later in spring.

also, if anyone knows of anyone selling the spacers, or 2" life components, let me know. thanks and happy wheeling

First off, your Jeep is a unibody therefor, a bodylift will not work. Pick up some RE 2" spacers from Modern motors for $80 and a set of new shocks (skyjacker Hydros from $220 National), and you will be set. you will need an alignment after if you don't want to wear out your tires.

The install is pretty straight forward...just hit all your bolt with wd40 a couple times for a week before you start to ensure they come off easily. It also helps to google the install for some step by step instructions. I did one on a ZJ a few weeks ago and it took me 3 hrs start to finish. with a little trimming, you can fit 31" tirs comfortably.

I think he was asking about wheel spacers.

I never used them but, get good quality spacers and hardware. Don't want wheels falling off. Also widening the stance pushes the centerline of the wheel farther out and puts more leverage on the unit bearings=wears out faster.

Johnny,

If you want to get rid of those shocks let me know here or on EJC, I need a set for my ZJ with a BB maybe soon to be a F>R Swap.

Clay, you are right...I read it wrong.

I had 1.25" wheel spacers from spidertrax on my tracker, and I never had a problem with them. Just make sure to use the locktite that comes with them. Spend the extra money on a good set (billit aluminum) and DON'T GET CAST.

For the cost of spacers you can almost get a decent set of alloys....they work but I think the spacers are annoying and a compromise

$300 for a set of spacers vs. $600 for rims...and some people like the rims they have.

I personally like the look of the TJ gamblers...so I would run those with spacers if I had them.

I think he was looking at both wheel spacers and body lift.

No way there's any bodylift going on a unibody ZJ.
